When Style Is Reborn

Style often reflects who we are and how we feel - if I'm feeling sassy and on top of the world you can bet I'll be in my stiletto's, new threads which are often dresses or skirts, jewellery to compliment my outfit and makeup/hair done; whereas on my off days I tend to stick to wooly joggers, a big baggy sweater, and comfy shoes like trainers or Uggs. Yep, I'm a huge fan of Uggs - what you gonna do about it?! I noticed this in myself especially this year as I've been feeling up and down and this has certainly reflected in my style. But since I've been fuelling myself with all the good vibes, positive energy, and self love - my style has been reborn.

I often talk about this with my personal styling clients - especially as women we go through so many changes in our life from simply growing up, to having children, lifestyle and environmental changes, to experiencing menopause: all of these contribute to changes in out body. And I'm no stranger to these feelings - I went from spending 25 years of my life living with a boyish slender future to all of a sudden sprouting curves in all the right but also unexpected places which threw me. It contributed to a year or two of feeling like I wasn't myself and I wasn't sure how to dress or what looked good on me; or what I even thought looked good in general. I always envied girls with curves and all of a sudden I had them I wanted my rectangle skinny figure back again! It took some time, but I learnt to love and respect my body the way it was, and appreciate the changes I was going through.

I fell in love with shopping and fashion again, I remember one day I decided that I'm just going to embrace it and stop waiting until the day I get my old figure back (because 1: I'm probably going to struggle getting my boobs back into a size 8 top ever again, 2: I actually love my curves, I just wanna tone up a little!) so I took myself on a little shopping trip to add a new thing or two to my wardrobe.

But it's not just clothes that make up an outfit - a common accessory people tend to overlook is jewellery. Jewellery in my opinion can make or break an outfit. For example elegant and timeless pieces can make an oversized jumper and a pair of skinny jeans look luxurious; a pair of the right hooped earrings can add sass and elegance; and fashion forward pieces make a statement that you are one trendy shopper!

I was introduced to ReBorn Jewellery at the beginning of the year and have been wearing their pieces throughout the year and have loved the designs - from versatile classic designs like hoop earrings in all sizes, simple chain necklaces, to stylish fashion led statement earrings and necklaces ReBorn Jewellery have got the designs and the price point right for any fashionista.

If you're looking to get your jewellery on point, here are my 3 top tips:

  1. Remember the rule: one statement piece. Don't overdo it and go à la Christmas tree chic adorned in ornaments from head to toe. If you're wearing statement earrings, opt for no or a very simple necklace. If you're wearing a big necklace, stay away from big earrings. Rings you can get away with as they're quite far away from your other statement piece, but this rule exists for necklaces and earrings.
  2. Invest on classic pieces; find bargains when it comes to fashion forward jewellery. Classic and simple pieces will last for a long time so invest in them, but when it comes to fashion forward items you need to remember they will be in and out of your wardrobe so don't spend too much money on items which will only last one trend season.
  3. If it's gone green, throw it in the bin. I know it may sound simple, but I see so many people wearing jewellery which is going green or brassy when it shouldn't be - if it's a cheap item, replace it. If it's an investment piece which is going slightly discoloured, have it cleaned. It will look like a million bucks again!
