As much as I love cooking, sometimes it's really nice to just go somewhere you know you will get good food, good service and comfortable prices and for me The Poplar Farm in Andover is just that. Situated just outside of Andover town, The Poplar Farm is a cosy and welcoming traditional English pub with a section for dining as well as casual drinks. The menu at the pub has traditional English grub with modern twists like wild boar and chorizo burger, salt beef hash or their peanut butter and chocolate cheesecake.

I like going to The Poplar Farm for casual dinner with friends or a spot of lunch if we're travelling past the pub - especially as in the summer they also have a couple of tables in the garden so you can catch the sun. With starters averaging on £4 and mains from £8-£12, dinner at The Poplar Farm won't break the bank but you still get excellent service - we've always enjoyed our nights there as the staff are welcoming and attentive.

This time, I had the slow cooked shoulder of lamb with mushroom and barley sauce, mashed potato and vegetables and the peanut butter cheesecake for dessert. The lamb itself was absolutely beautiful - tender and juicy, the slow cooked shoulder of lamb hit every note, and the sauce was very tasty. However, if I had to be picky I'd just say that the veg was a little bland. The peanut butter cheesecake was just a work of art - I'm not a huge dessert fan and rarely go for one, but I polished off this cheesecake, it was incredible! It was dressed in caramel sauce which was also just delicious - I loved the whole thing, can you tell?
My friends had the vintage hunters chicken (which looked delicious!), classic beef burger and the Belgian chocolate brownie which I had a taste of and it was also delicious. Basically, I think The Poplar Farm have amazing desserts!

In conclusion, if you're passing through Andover, Hampshire and you're heading towards the South West - make sure you pop into The Poplar Farm for a spot of lunch or an impromptu dinner!
