Last weekend Liam and I visited the Salisbury Seafood and Steakhouse restaurant in good ol' Salisbury! We live about half an hour drive away from the city and it's such a lovely place to visit if you're in the Wiltshire/Hampshire area. I've noticed that in the last 5 years, it has really grown in terms of shops and places to eat so as well as having authentic privately owned restaurants and bistros, there are now more chains open but I love how it is all balanced out and you have a large variety to pick from.

My mum has previously been to the Salisbury Seafood and Steakhouse and she rated it very high, so me and Liam decided to treat ourselves (pre starting our 2015 health kick) and went for a night out in Salisbury. I don't know what I expected of the restaurant but I didn't think it would be in a hotel - not that it matters but I imagined the surroundings to be more rustics, however it was clean, sharp and modern. It's quite a small restaurant so it's advisable to book in advance! We settled with a few olives, dipping breads and a bottle of white wine before reading the menu.
Obviously, the menu is all about different steaks and seafood with a variety of options to choose from, however don't be put off by that as there are plenty of vegetarian dishes as well as other meats available as the restaurant caters for everyone. I had the beef carpaccio with mussel tartare to start with: I was really looking forward to the tartare but I found the taste quite overbearing which is really strange for me as I love strong and different tastes. The carpaccio was good, but I didn't taste much of it due to the overpowering taste of the tartare so I was slightly disappointed with that. Liam had the pan seared scallops and they were just delish! They come with a squash puree which really compliments them - thumbs up!
As a main, we just had to get the surf and turf steaks: our first option was a sirloin, however the waitress informed us they were out of the sirloin but we could have a fillet at the same price (thumbs up for service!). I had my steak cooked rare and it arrived with triple cooked chips, saffron aioli and two grilled king prawns - it was delicious! This was one of the only times I had actually eaten the whole steak as sometimes I think there's too much on the plate with the chips and everything else but this was just right.
We then felt like having a little dessert so went for a frozen trio of millionaires ice-cream, raspberry and orange sorbet and it was a great palate cleanser at the end of a lovely dinner.

I enjoyed dining at the Salisbury Seafood and Steakhouse, the prices are very reasonable for a good cut of steak. I wish it had less of a hotel feel about it and more rustic decor but that's only my personal preference so I can't really fault them on that! However be aware that the mussel tartare is insanely powerful in it's taste when choosing!

We then went out to a couple of cocktail bars and continued the rest of the night feeling full and content. I think Salisbury is a really good place if you're after a fun evening without the crowds and the business of a big city.

  1. Ooh looks lovely. I've only ever been out for a steak once and that was at Miller and Carter Steakhouse. I'd totally recommend it if you're looking for somewhere else to try, it has a really great atmosphere and the food is incredible.

This post drew me in with the olives in your first photo, I do love some good olives! It's great they offered you a fillet for the same price as a sirloin - though it seems odd that a steakhouse doesn't have all the cuts of meat they offer on the menu!

Spotted your link through the fbloggers chat tonight, you've got a lovely blog!

  2. Indeed, this is a great review dear and I am glad that you had a great time here. Can you also suggest some good Boston restaurants who serve food like this? Actually I am new to the place and do not know much about it.
