Lunch At The Archangel in Frome, Somerset

Lunch At The Archangel in Frome, Somerset

The older you get, the harder it is to find a date when all of your best friends are free for a fun day out - but we managed to do just that, and planned a day trip to Frome in Somerset. From is a small town near Bath and is filled with small cobbled streets, boutique shops, and special food finds. In between exploring we stopped for lunch at the Archangel restaurant and we weren't disappointed - this place looked amazing.

The Archangel is tucked away on a small street in Frome and has one of the most unique interiors I've seen outside of a big city: there is a long hallway which connects cosy rooms and nooks where visitors can sit and enjoy food and drink. One of the rooms has a dining area and a bar where you order what you'd like, some of the nooks are only big enough for two people to cosy up, there are also  seating nooks in the long corridor, and rooms filled with big sofas for a group of people to cosy up on.

We picked the room with big cosy sofa's (it was pretty quiet that day - perks of having a day out in the middle of the week!) and settled to look at the menu, have a drink or two, and catch up with my favourites.

I joined these two gals at college and we've been friends for nearly 15 years now, and although often times we've lived in different parts of the country we've always found time to get together and have a good catch up on everything that's been going on. We definitely need to put more days out exploring on the list of things to do in 2020 as visiting Frome was a lot of fun, even just wondering around the shops and the pretty streets of Frome.

We looked over the menu at the Archangel and went to order at the bar, which was a couple of rooms along the hallway.

To start with we had mussels and soup of the day - the mussels portion was very generous, and tasted amazing. The food came pretty quickly so we didn't have much of a wait after ordering and enjoying drinks. I also opted for a Merlot wine which was perfect for a cold, wet day.

The soup was beautifully presented - I love the little cup it came in! Definitely going to find some pretty ceramic cups to serve my soup in at home when I have guests or want something Instagrammable.

For main I opted for the chicken burger with Jamaican slaw and spicy sauce - and French fries of course! I always choose French fries over chips - don't hate me, but fries are better.... I really enjoyed the burger, it fuelled me up for the whole day. Anything spicy always hits a good note for my taste buds! I don't usually choose chicken burgers opting instead for beef burger (if a place can cook it pink even better!) but this one was damn good.

To end this mini feats we had some panna cotta with apple sauce, and cocktails. The Archangel has amazing cocktails - these would be perfect for a Friday or Saturday night, in the cosy atmosphere, and a taxi booked home.

Frome is such a lovely little town and we'll definitely be back to explore in the summer - I can imagine there will be plenty of places with a pub garden open for visitors! If you're visiting Frome, make sure to take a wonder up the hill of the Main Street for quirky fashion boutiques and vintage shops, as well as stopping by the Archangel for a bite to eat and a cocktail to enjoy.
