The power of positivity. The energy surge like the one which fills our hearts on Christmas morning - there must be something to the collective power of happy thoughts that breathes life to magic in the air during the holidays. I once read a story about a group of monks who stayed in a bad neighbourhood riddled with crimes, and every day they meditated on released positive energy into this area. Unbelievably, about three months after the monks started doing this the crime rates in the neighbourhood went down - can you just imagine what the thousands of years believing in the magic of Christmas can do in terms of radiating the day with positive energy?

I have spent some time thinking about energies - I like learning about how energies affect us and how mindset can genuinely change our lives. When we fuel our days with positive thoughts we tend to see the universe give that energy back to us by something good happening for example you win a new client, or you get approached by a brand you've dreamed of working with, or that guy you've been noticing on your daily commute finally comes over and sparks up a conversation. I know that like attracts like - when I'm in a bad mood and I think tragedy, that's exactly what tends to happen. Or maybe I tend to notice it more because I'm focussing on the negative and feeling sorry for myself, thinking 'it's never going to happen'. So then I don't notice all the wonderful things that DO happen in the lead up to that big things I've been dreaming of. You know what I mean?

I know it's easier said than done - trust me, coming from a stress head who wishes she could control time, I'm no stranger to feeling negative emotions, overwhelm, anger. It's something that I'm proactively focussing on this year because although I know that there's no way it's healthy to be 100% positive ALL THE TIME (for example when you stub your toe? Even Gandhi wouldn't be able to keep his cool) it's also not healthy to live life experiencing more negative emotions. It poisons the soul, and seeps negative energies into the air around you. Can you just imagine if we had a day when everyone was in a horrible, angry mood? The oppressive energies would take over! And trust me when I say that negative energies are more contagious than positive ones.


So with that in mind, I wanted to share with you some of my favourite positive quotes which lift me up when I need a little boost:

And if you do get stuck in a little bit of a negative thinking rut, here are 3 simple ways to get back onto the positivity train:

1. Take a break and wind down. I often find that negative energies seep in when I'm tired or overwhelmed - panic hits, realistic thinking goes out of the window, and my thoughts and energies become erratic. So my coach and I have been working on me learning more about taking time to relax and unwind - if something is stressing me out to the point where energies turn bad, I'm learning to walk away and take some time to focus on calming my energies and shifting them to turn into good vibes.

2. Get dressed up, or dressed down. The stylist in me knows just how important it is to look good in order to make ourselves feel good. I definitely feel better wearing clothes I'm comfortable and happy in, for example I've loved wearing this cute outfit with the mesh cropped top, faux suede skirt, and my favourite beret. On the flip side, there are days when putting on makeup makes me feel like I don't even want to get out of bed and all I want is a day in my cosy loungewear with a messy bun. Feel into what your mind wants, and give in to this need. One day it could be getting dolled up and going out for dinner, and another day it could be chilling in your PJ's all day and eating junk food whilst binging on Netflix.

3. Talk it out. Whether you talk to your friend, husband, coach - talking it out helps to switch our energies which can block out communication if they're set on a negative level. Have a laugh, enjoy a lighthearted conversation and reset yourself with the help of your happy person.
