I love finding new hobbies and things to do - creatively it's hard for me to sit still as I always want to learn new things! I first met Victoria when I started Dalry Rose Digital - Victoria got in touch for help with her product photos so I got to know her and the Victoria Blum Calligraphy brand. I love how chic calligraphy looks and have always wanted to try my hand at it so I was very excited when Victoria invited me to her calligraphy workshop in Winchester, Hampshire.
Set in the upstairs events room of a traditional pub with a twist in the heart of Winchester, this workshop was an intimate and fun gathering. Everyone was a beginner at calligraphy but wanted to learn a new creative skill and hobby. Once we settled Victoria told us a little bit about calligraphy and armed us with a pack of all the tools we needed to get started. You don't need to bring anything except yourself and a willingness to try something new and have fun!
It was really fun to practice calligraphy - we used a thin sheet of paper so we could trace the letters and try and make words, and there is no right or wrong way although best practices exist for a reason to help you achieve the best results! Victoria told us that everyone finds their own style of calligraphy with practice and it's very true. We had a giggle over the first few letters we wrote, but over the course of the workshop our skills were getting better.
I found calligraphy very relaxing - although you are focused on what you're doing, your mind is also quite still. It's like a creative form of meditation I'm terrible at sitting still and silencing my mind as I always find things to think about but this was one of the only times my mind was peacefully quiet.
