Restaurant Review: Coast to Coast, Portsmouth

If you find yourself in Portsmouth and suddenly fancy some amazing American style food, then visit Coast to Coast: from blue cheese burgers to spicy chicken wings, you won't be disappointed.

A couple of weekends ago Liam and I paid a visit to Liam's brother Matt who lives in Portsmouth. We live only a short drive away from the city but this was only the second time I have been to Portsmouth and decided that actually we should visit more. The main shopping attraction is Gunwharf Quays - an outlet shopping centre full of high end stores, and a wide selection of eateries right by the seaside.
We came across Coast to Coast and decided to give it a go as all three of us are quite big meat eaters, and I love a good burger. It's almost like a thing now - if I go to a new place to eat and they have burgers on the menu, I will judge them by their burgers. Coast to Coast had a big selection of delicious burgers so it was a winner for me, not to mentioned all the hot and blue cheese sauce, and chicken wings.
Coast to Coast is a chain but I have never seen it before - and to be honest sometimes I get put off by chains as the food can be very uninteresting and 'dry', but these guys sure know what they're doing. Get ready for some pictures which will make you hungry!

We started with some sea salt pretzels and garlic bread - it was all very tasty, but I would strongly recommend the pretzels if you go there. The sea salt pretzels are big, warm, soft and doughy pieces with chunks of sea salt and they come with a garlic butter dip - heaven in your mouth. I could quite happily sit there and have a beer with a bucket of the pretzels and be happy!

For starters we ordered the Boston Prawns (beer battered king prawns with Cajun mayo on the side), Chicago Wings (chicken wings in Buffalo sauce served with celery and a blue cheese dip), and Spicy Calamari (served in a bucket and topped with black pepper, sea salt, chilli flakes and Grana Padano shavings - served with a grilled lemon and warm tomato sauce).
The food was delicious and we all picked at each others plates - the chicken wings were delicious and  the combination of calamari and Grana Padano worked really well! As far as the prawns go, they were the biggest prawns I have ever seen! I wish I took a picture against someones hand for comparison...

For mains Liam ordered the Sizzling Steak Fajita, Matt had the Roadside Sliders (for those who like variety as the three burgers are Bacon and Cheese, Black and Blue and BBQ Puller Pork!) and I went for the ultimate Buffalo Blue burger.
I had a little taste of Liams steak fajita and the meat was cooked to perfection - juicy and melt in your mouth. Some of you who follow me on Instagram will see that usually my meat is sizzled on the grill for like a minute as I like good cuts of meat rare, but even though this was more medium to the well done side, it was delicious and soft. I also stole Matt's coleslaw because he wasn't a fan, so my plate was becoming filled by the minute! However I won't take away any attention from the real start of the show: the Buffalo Blue burger. Melted blue cheese, Buffalo hot sauce, mayonnaise, fresh tomato, red onion, rocket, and dill pickle all served in a white bun with skinny fries and a spicy ketchup dip. I literally was in heaven! That is my absolute perfect burger because I love blue cheese and I love hot sauce, and who knew the combination could work together?! But it does and it's delicious. Ten out of ten, I am sold as a loyal Coast to Coast customer just because of that burger.

I really enjoyed the experience at Coast to Coast, it is a really nice place to relax in the summer as well, as you have outdoor seating which is very close to the marina (just make sure there's not a lot of wind as girls, hair WILL get in your way of eating). I think all of us will be returning to Coast to Coast again because the service was good, the food was excellent and it's a nice location.

  1. Haha, my friend works here. Really odd seeing somewhere you know on someone else's blog! You must have gone on an especially good day though... I actually don't like Coast to Coast at all, except for the pretzels which I can't lie are amazing.

If you do ever come back to Portsmouth you should check out 6oz Burgers or Meat & Barrel in Southsea. The BEST burgers in the city for sure. xxx
