I love the look of full lips - I'm talking TOWIE or Love Island style lips the girls sport, but I couldn't bring myself to get fillers or as some people are doing now - the horror of GLUING their lips. This is what nightmares are made of. I have nothing against fillers and love the look, but personally I'm not a huge fan of any unknown to me substance entering my body. And the fear of having a reaction or things going wrong is too real! Some stories I have heard had devastating side effects.
But I wanted to have the look of full lips without any intervention - so I teamed up with Essence Cosmetics to review their new Plumping Nudes Lipgloss collection. I love a plumping gloss (much to the dismay of my boyfriend who occasional gets left with a tingling or numbing sensation on his lips after we share a kiss) and have tried many glosses from different brands - both high street and high end.
I really liked the nude colours of the collection (duh, it's in the name Lana!) the shades will generally suit most completions. They are easy to apply and I often carry one in my bag for when I need a little shine and colour top up. The gloss lasts pretty well, considering I usually apply in the morning and throughout the morning I have coffee, water, something to snack on. But it's not just about the gloss - here are my top tips on getting a filler look on your lips without any injections!
Tips for fuller lips:
1. Apply a highlighter pen around your cupids bow and blend into your philtrum. This helps bring attention to your upper lips and define the cupids bow. You can also apply a little highlighter to the tip of your nose to highlight your features.
2. Use a contouring pencil to line your lips - you have a line around the edge of your lips, but there is almost like an invisible line next to it which if outlined adds volume to your lips.
3. Use a lip liner pencil to go over the contoured line in a colour which will match you gloss or lipstick. Make sure to blend this in to your lips - I love nude colours for outlining! Remember the more you outline the bigger your lips will look - you don't want to end up like a doll, but just enhance your natural lips!
4. Fill your lips - you can dab lipstick on first before applying the gloss if you want more of an intense colour; or go straight for the gloss. I like to double up on the nudes - choose a lighter colour on the inner lip, and as you go outwards blend in a darker colour. This adds definition and creates the illusion of bigger lips. Apply all around, and watch for gloss collecting in the corners of your mouth. If this happens, dab the excess lip gloss away.
