Bill's is a restaurant and bar located in WestQuay, Southampton in their recently developed food and entertainment complex. I visited Bill's for a review when they first opened a couple of years ago, and I was delighted to be invited back by the team to see their newly refurbished restaurant, and an updated menu.
I enjoy popping to Bill's for a casual cocktail and a bite to eat - my favourite tipple is the Raspberry and Rose Collins which is made up of Beefeater gin, rose liqueur, raspberry, cloudy apple & lime finished with soda - yum! Liam opted for the Bill's Beer as his drink of the evening - and we loved the quirky bottle! I tend to stick to wine (usually white in the summer, red in the winter) when it comes to dinner dates. The restaurant also has delicious mocktails which I've had before as a designated driver, and a range of teas - fresh mint tea is always my favourite! The lovely relaxed and stylish atmosphere of Bill's in WestQuay is ideal for catching up with friends over a few cocktails.
We enjoyed our drinks whilst having a browse of the menu - for us, there is so much that caught our eye! And what I really like about Bill's Restaurant is that there are healthy and indulgent options. From indulgent crispy calamari deep-fried in batter to a fresh watermelon and feta salad there is honestly something for everyone to enjoy. Talking about calamari, that was one of the starters we opted for! Liam and I have worked out a system which we deploy at mealtime when we go out - we pick something both of us will like and then share it. The calamari comes with red chilli and lime aioli which was delicious! And the squid is crispy on the outside but soft on the inside - I cannot cope with chewy squid which has soggy batter - Bill's have nailed the squid starter! We also opted for the chicken and sesame dumplings with Bill's spicy chutney - and the dumplings were divine! Paired with the tangy chutney which reminded me almost of a hoisin sauce vibe, this was a great started to enjoy - full of flavour and texture.
We have to shout out to our hosts - the team at Bill's, who were friendly, welcoming, and checked in with us throughout the meal without catching us with mouthfuls of food!
It was then time for mains - I opted for a Glow Bowl which is made up of pea falafel, grains, chickpeas, hummus, roasted butternut squash, long stem broccoli, pickled red cabbage, red pepper tapenade, spinach, miso dressing & grilled flatbread (plus I added some halloumi on the side because who says no to halloumi?). The bowl is full of goodness and I have noticed since working on my mindset and future goals which include downsizing my belly and upgrading my energy levels I have been more conscious of what I eat - this bowl looked so delicious I couldn't resist! Liam opted for the ribeye steak which comes with with rosemary salted fries & roasted tomatoes, and you can choose your favourite sauce to go with the steak - ours was peppercorn.
Guys, I have to tell you that this is perhaps one of the first times we didn't actually do our food sharing ritual: I loved my Glow Bowl so much that we simply tasted each others meals and although the steak was juicy and perfectly seasoned with plenty of smoky flavour from the grill, I actually just wanted to indulge in my Glow Bowl which was so full of flavour and goodness - and so filling!
Liam really enjoyed his steak and cleared the plate - we agreed that the meals were delicious and we really couldn't fault anything we have eaten.
We really enjoyed our trip to Bill's Restaurant in WestQuay Southampton and I am looking forward to going back soon to enjoy some more of the dishes which caught my eye, as well as enjoy a few cocktails!
