Recently we visited Big Easy Bar.B.Q and Crabshack in Covent Garden for a spot of some food and a couple of cocktails. Ever since discovering this eatery, I just had to go and find out if it was really as delicious and tasty as the photos on their Instagram page so I booked a table after a blogger event in London.
I loved the atmosphere of the place - from the moment you stepped into the shack, it transported you out of London and into a Southern US small town bar, from the music to the decor, everything suited. We ordered a couple of Pina Coladas to start and dug into the menu.
From BBQ ribs, steaks and seafood - there is a variety for everyone. Granted, if you're a vegetarian then this probably isn't the best place to go as the veggie dishes are very limited, but pescetarians will do just fine.
As a started, we ordered the Grand Appetizer Platter for two to share which consists of Voodoo chicken wings, Pit-smoked BBQ wings, Hush Puppies, Calamari and Deep Fried Jumbo Shrimp. The jumbo shrimp were huge and delicious- I could easily eat a whole bucket of them. The platter came with 4 types of dips which were a mix of spicy, cool and I think a blue cheese sauce to go with the wings which was delicious. Hush Puppies are deep fried balls of cornmeal batter and come with a smoked chilli jam - this is the first time I tried them and I liked them very much! These are also vegetarian friendly. I also loved the squid which was cooked perfectly and tasted so good.
This platter cottoned everything which I would struggle to choose from as a starter, so it gets a massive 10/10!
As for the main, we were quite full from the sharing platter and because both me and Liam are pickers (get a variety of things on the table and pick at different foods to taste as much as we can), we ordered the Crabshack Combo which is a beautiful medley of Crab Claws, Mussels, Clams, New Potatoes and a peel-n-eat giant shrimp, all cooked in a hot and spicy sauce.
The dish was delicious and all the seafood was cooked to perfection - nothing was overdone or rubbery. The sauce had a hint of spice but wasn't overwhelming - I just wish we thought about ordering some bread to mop up the sauce at the end of the meal, do that if you go for the same dish! Flavours of the sauce were incredible because all the seafood juices come together, then theres the lemon juice and the freshness of herbs sprinkled on top - yet another 10/10.
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Big Easy in Covent Garden - not only was the atmosphere great, the food was spot on and delicious, but also the service was faultless (friendly, attentive and really good at advising what food to go for). We will definitely go back to Big Easy to taste their steaks and BBQ (now that we've conquered seafood!).
This looks incredible. I absolutely love Southern food. So glad the UK is catching on.
