At the weekend we visited Liam's family in Birmingham and he finally showed me around the famous Birmingham fish market - I loved it so much that I decided to tell you guys about it! I've always wanted to go to the Birmingham fish market after Liam told me about all the variety of fresh fish available to buy there. I love fish and seafood so to me this sounded like heaven, if you're not a fan of fish and the smell of the sea - be warned.
You can smell the fresh seafood as you enter the hall which holds not only seafood but also fresh cuts of halal meat and spices from around the world. But I was most interested in the huge selection of the seafood and it didn't let me down: from salmon and tuna, to squid, mussels, sprats, cockles and whelks, oysters, eels, lobsters, prawns and all types of fish you can imagine  - it was all there for incredible prices. Even though we didn't buy anything to take away with us, we had some amazing seafood available to eat at the market which was delicious! Our quick lunch included whelks, cockles, winkles (which I had for the first time and although they were a little fiddly to get out it was worth it) and the best oysters I have ever tasted.
Next time we go to the fish market, I'm going to take a freezer bag and stock up on some of the yummy seafood - and definitely indulge in more of the delicious fresh food available to eat at the market! If you like food, and more importantly seafood, then take a weekend break and get yourself to the Birmingham fish market to enjoy some yummy oysters!
