COSY
/ˈkəʊzi/
adjective
giving a feeling of comfort, warmth, and relaxation.
"the flickering lamp gave the room a cosy lived-in air"
What are the first images and words that come to mind when you think of the word cosy? The above definition definitely means hygge for me: dim lit rooms, lots of warmth, comfortable seating, food, and a glass of red wine as the finishing touch. We were invited to celebrate the VIP opening of Cosy Club in Basingstoke Festival Place and the name delivered - cosy surroundings, great food, and plenty of wine to go around.
I have been to a couple of Cosy Club restaurants before in Bath and Salisbury, and each has its own quirky decor, friendly staff, and warm atmosphere. Upon entering Cosy Club in Basingstoke, I immediately loved the atmosphere created by interior decor and the team who are all dressed in 1920's-1950's inspired clothing. The restaurant is dimly lit in warm colours and has plenty of comfortable seating as well as more traditional table and chairs - but I like that if you're stopping by for Friday cocktails there is a cosy chair to slump into!
We were treated to complimentary drinks and tapas which were delicious: chicken tenders with soy dressing, mushrooms on sourdough with mascarpone, mozzarella and cranberry bites, and a posh scotch egg. I enjoyed mine with a glass of white wine; and then swapped to mocktails for the rest of the night. I usually find it really hard to find nice mocktails to enjoy whilst everyone else gets the full cocktail experience - I remember the last non alcoholic mojito I had was literally sour lime cordial, crushed ice, and soda. So when I was offered mocktails for the rest of the evening, I decided to try a couple to see if Cosy Club can deliver the same great taste in their non alcoholic drinks.
I was recommended to try a Virgin Mary - and I love a Bloody Mary - so I went for the driver friendly version and I have to say it was amazing. I did not miss the alcohol at all! It had the same kick and flavour so I will definitely be drinking that again. I then tried a sweet cocktail which was Cherry and Basil Fizz - and again, it had amazing flavour and a kick to it. The mocktails at Cosy Club have been my favourite and I feel very happy watching others grow a to-be hangover whilst I'm sipping on my delicious fake cocktails!
We had a great evening with Cosy Club Basingstoke and will definitely stop off for tapas and drinks again - I also hear their brunch is pretty amazing!
